Candesco Executive Leads New IAEA International Project

January 10, 2013

Since 2010, Candesco Executive Katherine Moshonas Cole has been one of two Canadian representatives to the IAEA's International Decommissioning Network (IDN). Last year she was appointed Chair of the Data Analysis and Collection for Costing of Research Reactor Decommissioning (DACCORD) Project.

As Chair, Moshonas Cole provides leadership to a group of about 30 participants representing over 20 countries. The goal of the IDN is to improve the dissemination of knowledge and experience in decommissioning, and DACCORD's focus is to improve the quality of planning and cost estimating for decommissioning of research reactors.

Through her work with the IAEA, Moshonas Cole aims to improve the international exchange of decommissioning experience and knowledge. "I hope to enable Canadian organizations to learn from global expertise, and to have Canadian expertise recognized as well". "An example of the former is the work Kinectrics is now doing with DECOM to bring state-of-the-art decommissioning cost estimating to Canada." "This is a major step forward in Canada: it gives our clients clearer costing and planning information, and allows them to be benchmarked against international projects."
