Kinectrics Co-Sponsors IAEA Workshop

November 02, 2012

Kinectrics and AECL recently sponsored a workshop for IAEA members on Practical Skills Development for Waste Management, Characterization and Clearance in Decommissioning.

Eighteen IAEA representatives from Asia, Africa, South America and Eastern Europe visited Canada in September for the  workshop. The first 3 days were spent at Kinectrics labs followed by two days of tours at the AECL Chalk River Laboratory (CRL) site.

The Kinectrics visit involved classroom lectures and lab tours, which included the new Dosimetry Facility. Workshops presented by Kinectrics covered such topics as; using GPS enabled terrain survey equipment--designed by Kinectrics--to locate and measure ground contamination; working in the Decontamination and Refurbishment Facility and; using field equipment to measure contamination.

At AECL Chalk River, the group toured facilities for storage with surveillance; active decommissioning; fuel packaging and storage; and waste analysis. The AECL CRL itinerary was designed to complement the Kinectrics classroom lectures and workshops.

Kinectrics Training Manager Cherie Ferrari and Candesco's Julia Dinner and Mike Grey were key participants in hosting this event.
