Kinectrics Completes Challenging Insulator Testing Project for US Utility

January 06, 2017

CenterPoint Energy, a well-established utility in the USA, required a sequence of electrical and mechanical tests on a number of polymer insulator parts. Due to the large number of samples and the short timeframe available for testing, the project required a very aggressive test schedule.

The goal of the testing was to test insulator design and performance to determine suitability for a major pending transmission project. All tests were performed in Kinectrics’ High Voltage and Mechanical Testing facilities, which presented the additional challenge of coordinating a seamless hand off of equipment between the two laboratories. Kinectrics’ technical personnel worked through long days and over weekends to meet the committed schedule.

The project scope included selected prototype tests, performed in accordance with American National Standard procedures. Full size and customized sizes of specimens testing were submitted for testing.

Due to the expert capabilities and commitment of personnel in the Kinectrics Electrical and Safety Testing group, the client’s schedule was met. The comprehensive test results achieved supported CenterPoint Energy in informed decision making on component selection for the new project.
