Kinectrics Designs Largest Grounding System in Ontario

February 24, 2014

Building on its established expertise in engineering services for Distributed Generation, Kinectrics has recently concluded design and installation of a major grounding grid system for a 100 MW solar farm located in Ontario. The solar farm is part of a larger renewable energy park project, which also includes development of a 160 MW wind farm.

The 230 kV output generated by the solar and wind farms will ultimately connect to Hydro One infrastructure via a new tap connection. On completion of this project--to be tested and energized in 2014--the new 100 MW generating site will become Ontario's largest solar farm installation.

The success of this project was enabled by Kinectrics' advanced technical capabilities, five decades of practical experience, and specialized facilities related to grounding design, consulting and testing.

Kinectrics' familiarity with the requirements of Hydro One, the Ontario Power Authority (OPA) and the Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) also provided full support for the design, installation, and testing process,  expediting completion of the work.
