Kinectrics Performs Independent Factory Acceptance Testing for Transformers

For the first time in North America, Kinectrics is now performing 3rd party full Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) for transformers complied with the Ontario Power Authority FIT program--typically, new transformers consigned to renewable energy such as wind and solar power installations.

Qualified FAT services for power transformers, primarily established by IEEE / CSA standards, are being provided by Kinectrics directly to end users, who have traditionally relied on manufacturers for equipment qualification. Kinectrics' recently-expanded transformer certification capabilities provide end users with a high level of quality assurance from a uniquely-equipped vendor independent lab. 

The complete package of FAT and field acceptance services for transformers from Kinectrics includes: LV testing: turn-ratio, phase angle, DC winding resistance, power factor, core insulation, SFRA, DFR, and DGA. Additional equipment certification services performed in the Kinectrics High Voltage lab cover: no-load loss and load loss testing, temperature rise, lightning impulse testing, applied potential testing, induced voltage testing and partial discharge measurement.

On completion of this project, the new 230 kV voltage class transformer currently undergoing factory acceptance testing at Kinectrics will be installed as the main collector power transformer at a 100 MW Ontario wind farm.
