Kinectrics to Present at Sapporo Nuclear Conference

September 17, 2014

Senior Kinectrics nuclear engineer Aamir Husain, Ph.D. will make a presentation at the Nuclear Plant Chemistry Conference (NPD) to be held in Sapporo, Japan, October 26-31, 2014. The NPC reviews recent developments in the science and technology of water chemistry control in nuclear reactor systems. The 2014 NPC meeting in October will focus on increasing safety and reliability for LWRs as well as lessons learned from the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi NPP accident.

Dr. Husain will present a paper entitled, “New Insights into Activity Transport within the Primary Heat Transport Systems of CANDU Reactors”. This paper presents the key highlights of work undertaken recently, which led to new insights into the activity transport of Sb-124 and Zr / Nb-95.

The work, carried out by Dr. Husain and Dr. Yury Verzilov of Kinectrics, supports development of an improved understanding of radiation field trends, as part of a Research & Development program ongoing at Kinectrics since 2007, under the sponsorship of the CANDU Owners Group (COG).

Assessment of radiochemical data for coolant, PHTS deposits, spent filters and spent ion exchange resins has led to an overall understanding of the integrated transport of Sb-124 and Zr / Nb-95.

Aamir Husain, Ph.D., has over 30 years’ experience in nuclear waste management, chemistry and decommissioning. Yury Verzilov, Ph.D., is a highly-qualified, experienced professional in nuclear, engineering, physics and chemistry.
