Kinectrics to become First Independent Licensed Provider of Alpha Dosimetry Services in Canada

April 13, 2011

A new Kinectrics Alpha Dosimetry Lab, scheduled for completion in July 2011, will analyze bioassay samples from nuclear power workers. The data compiled will then be used to better predict the potential level of alpha dose received by workers during refurbishment and maintenance activities on reactors in Canada.

Kinectrics' Alpha Dosimetry Lab will have the following capabilites:

Ability to analyze both urine and fecal samples to the detection limits required by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) and/or by administrative limits.

Ability to handle more than 5,000 urine samples per year (or approximately 25 per day) for screening purposes during an event, or during major shifts in personnel. Several hundred fecal samples per year can be processed for cases which warrant further investigation.

It is anticipated that the operating license for the Kinectrics Alpha Dosimetry Lab will be issued by the CNSC later in 2011.

The addition of an alpha dosimetry program demonstrates Kinectrics' ongoing commitment to the Canadian nuclear industry, and its ability to respond quickly to station needs.

Alpha dosimetry lab services by Kinectrics will be available to all CANDU operators as well as other interested parties.
