LineVue™ Continues to Build International Success

July 18, 2014

Craig Pon, a representative for the Kinectrics Transmission and Distribution Line Asset Management Group recently visited a number of countries to demonstrate the Kinectrics LineVue™ inspection tool.
All of the new international demos were well-received by participating utilities and observers.

In Scotland, LineVue™ was deployed in field tests in remote areas for Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE), Scottish Power and ESB Networks (from Ireland) on July 1st.

The field demonstration was performed on an unenergized ACSR “Lynx” conductor in a 300 m span.  LineVue™ indicated there was no appreciable corrosion on the inspected span.  Although the demonstration was limited to one conductor, the benefits of using LineVue™ were readily apparent to the observers.

Previously, LineVue™ demonstrations were performed for Amprion in Germany following a detailed presentation and review of LineVue™ technology at the utility’s headquarters in Dortmund, Germany.

The field demonstration in Germany was performed in late June on an 86 year old ACSR conductor.  LineVue™ indicated that there was no appreciable corrosion on this conductor.  Company spokesperson Andre Gravelmann commented that he was impressed by the demonstration and inspection data. “It is quite interesting to discover that the conductor was in such good shape after 86 years in service”, he said.

Interest in the Kinectrics LineVue™ inspection tool continues to grow worldwide. The recent events in the UK and Germany follow on another successful demonstration, which took place in Ohio, USA in late June 2014.  The US demonstration illustrated LineVue™ capabilities for Distribution line inspection.

LineVue™ has also now been used commercially to successfully inspect conductors for utilities in France, Belgium and Spain as well as in numerous projects throughout North America.
