General Accountabilities:
Kinectrics requires a Project General Manager to plan, execute, and finalize a major EPC project in the area of commercial Nuclear Power generation and radioactive waste management. This is a rare opportunity to join a project in the very early stages of implementation and see it through to commissioning. The responsibilities include defining the project team, acquiring resources and coordinating the efforts of team members and third-party contractors or consultants in order to deliver projects according to plan. Responsibilities will include P&L management and delivery of the project to a previously defined schedule. This is an international project, and with significant design/technology input from Canada.
Project management is to be initiated in Canada during the Engineering phase of the project and will transition to Europe over the Project’s duration. The project duration is planned to be six years. During this period it is expected the Project General Manager’s home base will also shift from Canada to Europe. Significant travel is expected throughout the project’s duration.
The Project General Manager will report to an international management team requiring the formation of strong relationships with these stakeholders whom have varying backgrounds.
Key Activities will include:
- Direct and manage project development from beginning to end.
- Define project scope, goals and deliverables that support business goals in collaboration with senior management and stakeholders.
- Ensure that any changes to the scope are effectively managed, and that the potential impact of cost and schedule is well understood in advance of approval by the management team.
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises, and devise contingency plan.
- Develop full-scale project plans and Identify and manage project dependencies and critical path.
- Track project milestones and deliverables and provide progress reports.
- Liaise and communicate with project stakeholders on an ongoing basis. Project stakeholders include the customer, the design authority, the regulator, external consultants, suppliers and in-house management and resources.
- Estimate the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
- Where required, negotiate with other department managers for the acquisition of required personnel from within the company.
- Determine and assess need for additional staff and/or consultants and make the appropriate recruitments if necessary during project cycle.
- Set and continually manage project expectations with team members and other stakeholders.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities to appropriate personnel.
- Identify and resolve issues and conflicts within the project team.
- Plan and schedule project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
- Define project success criteria and disseminate them to stakeholders throughout project life cycle.
- Coach, mentor, motivate and supervise project team members and contractors, and influence them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.
- Build, develop, and grow any business relationships vital to the success of the project.
- Ensure that the project meets all necessary QA and regulatory requirements including regulatory approval.
Essential Experience/Qualifications
- An Undergraduate degree in Engineering preferable in the field of Chemical, Process or Mechanical.
- Fifteen or more years direct work experience in a project management capacity, including all aspects of project development and execution.
- Experience in managing a large multidisciplinary project with some experience involving process plant projects.
- Demonstrated experience in managing large teams of personnel with varying backgrounds
- Management of large international project(s) with complex stakeholders and competing priorities
- Experience in Modular Plant Design and the procurement of Skids from a variety of vendors worldwide
- Knowledgeable in Nuclear Quality Assurance Programs and procurement and inspection requirements
Preferred Experience/Qualifications
- Eligible or licensed as a Professional Engineer.
- PMP Certification.
- Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.
- Can conform to shifting priorities, demands and timelines through analytical and problem solving capabilities.
- Ability to react to project adjustments and alterations promptly and efficiently.
