Creep Degradation Replica Examinations

In-situ techniques to identify the type and severity of creep degradation in high-energy piping and components in fossil generating stations.

The creep degradation replication process is performed using Kinectrics’ proven procedure to produce field metallographic replicas. The procedure produces a metallographic ‘fingerprint’ of the indication, or area of interest, on the surface of the component. Staged grinding, polishing, and replication are sometimes performed to determine the depth of the indication, or to ensure that a defect has been removed, prior to repair.

Kinectrics provides support to fossil generating stations during major outages to determine the severity of creep damage experienced by components, and to identify those requiring repair prior to return to service.
