Supporting Infrastructure Life Extension, Protection and Improvement

State-of-the-art facilities

Kinectrics’ state-of-the-art Concrete Testing Laboratory effectively supports our leading edge capabilities in providing life extension, protection and improvement services for your structures. The long history of Kinectrics Concrete Testing Laboratory has resulted in a large database on the performance of concrete and concrete-related materials in a variety of service conditions.

Our versatile laboratory can be combined with other Kinectrics facilities, such as specialized machining and prototyping for the development of non-standard tests, seismic testing and analysis, and scale-model testing. These broad-based capabilities are important to develop and accurately evaluate practical solutions, by simulating key field aspects of a problem and replicating specific service conditions and requirements.

Proven expertise and experience

Kinectrics offers over 90 years of proven expertise and experience in solving the most complex technical challenges, including:

  • Development and evaluation of repair materials and procedures to be subjected to service conditions unique to the power industry (e.g. underwater, high temperature, nuclear exposure)
  • Development of unique tests and procedures (e.g. a specialized test to evaluate the crack-bridging capability of elastomeric materials subjected to various environments)
  • Development and evaluation of special-purpose concretes and other related construction materials (e.g. low-temperature polymer concrete, high density concrete, high performance concrete)
  • Instrumentation and testing of large-scale structural elements to evaluate safety, reliability and behavioural aspects of key structural elements and components

ISO/CSA registered for standard and specialized testing

Kinectrics’ ISO 9001 and CSA registered laboratory is capable of the complete range of standard and specialized testing prescribed by the CSA, ASTM and ACI.

Specialized facilities and services

  • Universal testing machines with the capability of testing specimens at temperatures ranging from -35oC to 315 oC
  • Large walk-in environmental chamber with a temperature range of -35 oC to 90 oC
  • High temperature ovens for conditioning and exposure to elevated temperatures
  • Full laboratory-scale batching, mixing, casting and curing facilities
  • Data acquisition for controlling and monitoring a range of instruments
  • Alkali-aggregate reaction testing
  • Freeze-thaw testing
  • Outdoor exposure facility
  • Petrographic evaluation
  • Thermogravimetric testing
  • Heat of hydration

Establishing industry guidelines

Kinectrics’ unique capabilities and unparalleled history of success have resulted in the establishment of many national data standards and benchmarks, for concrete and related materials’ performance in a variety of service conditions.
