Sr. Engineer - Gas Filled Substations

Kinectrics is looking for an experienced licensed professional engineer to work with a team of professionals in projects related to gas filled equipment such as substations and terminations. 


General Accountabilities

  1. Act as a project leader for Kinectrics dealing with projects in the field of gas filled substations and terminations
  2. Develop proposals for customers, present these proposals in client meetings and negotiate scope and price as required to meet customer expectations.
  3. Initiate, plan, organize and conduct consulting projects in the above areas.
  4. Assist in the development of marketing and business proposals in the area of gas filled sub stations
  5. Assist in the negotiation and administration of contracts, including estimates of costs, schedule, and resources required. 
  6. Work involves using a mixture of desktop studies (i.e design software), laboratory and field work.
  7. Discuss with staff of external customers, in conjunction with the Department Manager, the strategy or plans that are required to solve complex or controversial problems and support the client group's operation.
  8. Actively market/sell the technology/services of the business to ensure products remains viable and competitive. Participate in workshops and conferences and present high quality articles for presentation and publication.
  9. Be prepared to travel within Canada, the United States and elsewhere to complete projects.
  10. Maintain expertise in the field of transmission and gas filled substations through participation in national and international bodies such as Cigre, IEEE and IEC.


Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications

  1. A four year university education or equivalent in electrical or high voltage, engineering plus further concentrated studies in related areas. Preference will be given to a post-graduate qualification.
  2. General knowledge of transmission line and station, planning, analysis and design
  3. General knowledge of transmission components such as transformers, breakers, insulators, conductors, cables
  4. Specialized expertise in the area of gas insulated substations and terminations including inspection, assessment, repair techniques and life extension.
  5. Must have experience in business development, business case definition, and project management.
  6. Must have excellent computer, spreadsheet and some electronic skills.
  7. Must have excellent communications, report writing and oral presentation skills.
  8. A period of up to six years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
  9. Must be a licensed professional engineer.
