Lead Technologist - High Voltage Safety Equipment

The successful candidate should be recognized as an expert in the field of safety testing of high voltage safety equipment and be able to conduct or direct tests, investigations and technical studies often of a complex nature in one or more technical disciplines with a high degree of independence.  This will include leading/supervising others on a project team and dealing directly with the customer to respond to issues/problems and /or acquire new or repeat business.  Kinectrics goal is to develop employees who are highly trained with multiple capabilities and responsibilities while eliminating traditional boundaries in working roles.  The initial assignment will be in the Electrical Safety Testing Laboratory. 

Skill/Experience

 

  • Completion of a three year community college or University undergraduate degree in electrical technology or related/equivalent programs plus specialized courses in the area of electrical technology/engineering with emphasis on high voltage.
  • Minimum 10 years experience in an electrical high voltage laboratory – qualifications can be used in lieu of experience.
  • Superior leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Requires knowledge of High Voltage (HV) laboratory and field test equipment such as Surge Generators, HV Test Supplies and High Current supplies
  • Requires knowledge of HV test requirements and standard test methods for HV safety equipment such as gloves, cover-up equipment, insulating mats, hot sticks, aerial vehicles (insulated bucket trucks), etc.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for performing precision measurements.
  • Ideally, but not critical that the successful candidate has experience and understanding of the requirements of ISO 17025 and related standards as they relate to an accredited calibration facility operating in an ISO9000 company.
  • Incumbents are recognized authority in a field of major importance.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams both in the lab and in the field.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and the preparation of calibration and measurement reports.
  • Ability to act as a spokesperson for Kinectrics.
  • Excellent written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in solving complex problems where solutions require considerable investigation to resolve and often require integration of a number of technical fields.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems.
  • Requires strong customer focus, highly self-motivated and pays particular attention to details.
