Electrical Technologist - High Voltage

General Overview

The incumbent will be expected to conduct investigations, tests and technical studies often of a complex nature in one or more technical disciplines.  This will include working with others on a project team and dealing directly with the customer to respond to issues/problems and /or acquire new or repeat business.  Kinectrics goal is to develop employees who are highly trained with multiple capabilities and responsibilities while eliminating traditional boundaries in working roles.  The initial assignment will be in the High Voltage Laboratory, Electrical & Mechanical Testing Certification Testing Department.

 

Skill/Experience

 

  • Completion of a three year community college diploma in electrical technology or related/equivalent programs plus specialized courses in the area of electrical engineering technology with emphasis on high voltage.
  • Requires a minimum of 8 years experience in an electrical high voltage laboratory.
  • Ability to work independently on a day to day basis
  • Requires knowledge of High Voltage (HV) test equipment such as Surge Generators, HV Test Supplies and High Current supplies
  • Requires some knowledge of  HV test requirements and standard test methods for HV Power equipment
  • Requires some knowledge of data acquisition systems, RIV, Corona,& PD measurement techniques
  • Requires knowledge of high voltage transformers, impulse generators, instruments, PD measurements, insulators, cables, conductors and secondary transmission components.
  • Experience with assemblies of transmission class line and insulator components which involves some physical lifting and working at heights.
  • Experience in operation of lifts, overhead cranes, and material handling devices such as fork lift an advantage.
  • Knowledge of the requirements for performing precision measurements.
  • Ideally, but not critical that the successful candidate has experience and understanding of the requirements of ISO 17025 and related standards as they relate to an accredited calibration facility operating in an ISO9000 company.
  • Ability to work effectively in teams both in the lab and in the field.
  • Experience with spreadsheets and the preparation of calibration and measurement reports.
  • Excellent written (technical and non-technical) and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in solving complex problems where solutions require investigation to resolve and often require integration of technical fields.
  • Ability to exercise considerable judgment and resourcefulness in resolving technical problems.
  • Requires strong customer focus, highly self-motivated and pays particular attention to details.
