Electrical Technologist -High Current Lab

Kinectrics’ High Current Lab is a modern and well equipped electrical power testing facility located in Toronto, Ontario.  The independent laboratory performs tests to various international standards for electrical manufacturers and utilities throughout the world. Kinectrics’ High Current Laboratory is world-renowned for its pioneering work. Results from our laboratory have, and continues to shaped international standards. Customers come from every continent to complete critical development and testing.

We have an immediate need for a full time Electrical Technologist to work in this unique test area. 

As the member of the High Current Lab Team, your role will be to assist and conduct testing and provide technical support to the lab manager, project managers and clients.

Tests on various industrial, distribution and transmission class equipment include;

  • short circuit and momentary withstand
  • temperature rise type tests
  • electrical arc test on protective fabrics, garments and other personal protective equipment (PPE) for the electrical industry.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the preparation and execution of tests according to international standards and customer requirements.
  • Apply theoretical and practical knowledge in testing analysis and problem resolution.
  • Ensure safety and accuracy of the required results.
  • Participate in maintenance and improvements of laboratory equipment.
  • Participate in design of test methods, perform experiments, and prepare reports.

Technical Skills and Experience

  • Completion of a three year community college or University undergraduate degree in electrical technology or related/equivalent programs
  • Minimum 3-5 years experience in a high current or high voltage laboratory is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in mathematical calculations and electrical circuits analysis
  • Technical knowledge in high voltage switchgear, transmission and distribution systems, and protection & control circuits would be desirable asset.
  • Experience with distribution and transmission class equipment.
  • Work involves physical lifting, extended periods of physical activity and working at heights.
  • Experience in operation of lifts, overhead cranes, and material handling devices such as fork lift an advantage.
  • Experience and understanding of the requirements of ISO 17025 and related standards as they relate to an accredited calibration facility operating in an ISO9000 company is desirable.
  • Good working knowledge of computers for data acquisition, analysis and reporting.
