Kinectrics Outlines New Plan for Environmentally Responsible Global Energy Strategies
TORONTO, Ontario, May 8, 2003 - Ivor da Cunha, from the Emerging Energy Technologies group at Kinectrics Inc. today announced the publication of the APEC Environmentally Sound Infrastructure Report. This report represents Phase II of a major global plan initiated by the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) energy ministers in 1996. The United States, Canada, and 19 independent economies in the Pacific Rim representing 2.5 billion people and 45% of global trade are members of APEC.
This initiative is designed to explore methods to ensure that new energy infrastructures and policies within the burgeoning APEC region are designed, built and operated in an efficient and environmentally responsible manner. The report is expected to generate and attract significant investment in energy infrastructures that are environmentally sound. Its implementation will advance best practices among policy leaders to encourage energy security and climate change policies that preserve environmental integrity in North America and other APEC economies.
"This report provides an excellent model for practical environmental strategies everywhere--it offers many essential recommendations that can be readily applied in North America," said da Cunha, principal author of the report. "These strategies return an increasingly important benefit in allowing the expansion and improvement of new energy infrastructures while preserving the environment," he emphasized.
Energy demand in the APEC economies is projected to grow by 41% for the period 1995-2010, The Environmentally Sound Energy Infrastructure Project is seen by APEC member economies as an important and critical step in ensuring both the environmental integrity and continued economic success of the region.
Kinectrics Inc., a member of the AEA Technology Group, is an internationally recognized leader in providing advanced technology-based solutions for the energy sector. Formerly Ontario Hydro Technologies, the firm has remained an elemental and important part of the North American energy and engineering market for over 90 years.
