Kinectrics to Present at Air Quality IV Conference

More than 70 Experts from Around the World to Give Presentations During Upcoming Air Quality IV Conference

GRAND FORKS, N.D. Mr. Rene Mangal, of Kinectrics Inc. will present a paper, Effects of Mercury Sorbents/Oxidants on SCR Catalyst for PRB Coal, at the upcoming Air Quality IV Conference, September 22-24, 2003, at the Marriott Crystal Gateway in Arlington, Virginia.

The Air Quality IV Conference is the world’s premier conference for reviewing the current state of science and policy for mercury, trace elements, and particulate matter in the environment. It provides a forum for industry, government, and research organizations to help enhance the environmental performance of the nation’s future energy infrastructure.

The event is sponsored by the University of North Dakota’s Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC), the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) National Energy Technology Laboratory (NETL), the Center for Air Toxic Metals (CATM) through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Research and Development National Center for Environmental Research, and EPRI.

"Air Quality IV will give participants an unparalleled opportunity to discuss relationships between science, engineering technologies, and regulations that lead to acceptable policies and programs, which protect human health, while at the same time, ensure economic growth," EERC Director Gerald Groenewold.

The conference’s 3-day technical program will consist of two streams of technical presentations focusing on air quality impacts on health and ecosystems, emission prevention and control, and atmospheric reactions and modeling. The conference also includes a poster session, exhibits, and three pre-conference workshops.

U.S. Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND), U.S. Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) and U.S. Representative Earl Pomeroy (D-ND) will delivery keynote addresses during the conference. Other invited speakers include U.S. Senator Craig Thomas (R0WY) and Carl Michael Smith, Assistant Secretary for Fossil Energy of the U.S. Department of Energy. Clay S. Jenkinson, humanities scholar, will also present, in character, Thomas Jefferson’s views on air quality and the environment.

The EERC is a research, development, demonstration, and commercialization facility at UND recognized internationally for its expertise in cleaner, more efficient energy technologies. Operating as a business within UND, the EERC practices a philosophy that emphasizes true working partnerships with industry, government, and the research community.
