Kinectrics Awarded Major T&D Asset Study Project by U.S. Utility

TORONTO, Ontario, May 24, 2007 – David Harris, President and CEO of Kinectrics Inc. today announced that the company’s Transmission and Distribution business has been awarded a contract for transmission asset condition assessment by Exelon Corporation, based in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.

Exelon Corporation has selected Kinectrics North America Inc. to develop Health Indices and Risk-Cost Matrices for all of its PECO and Commonwealth Edison (ComEd) transmission and distribution assets—a total of over 30 asset categories.

“In accepting this important contract award from Exelon, Kinectrics offers not only its expertise, but its commitment to delivering a successful project that will contribute to helping the client control costs and optimize their transmission and distribution system asset management”, said Harris.

“Exelon selected Kinectrics for this project because we were very pleased with the pilot project they conducted for us on our auto transformers last year, as well as similar projects they have completed on all the asset groups we wanted to address,” said Rob Donovan, Director, Asset Performance, Exelon Corp. “Kinectrics’ history of conducting condition assessment, root cause analysis as well as the certification and qualification of components also demonstrates the in-depth knowledge and data they bring to the development of the Health Indices,” added Donovan. “We feel confident that Kinectrics, as a reputable vendor-independent organization with well-established technical credentials, will deliver a complete and unbiased report, particularly for the critical end-of-life evaluations of our system assets.”

Kinectrics will use an advanced condition assessment methodology that has been successfully employed on numerous power projects for utilities throughout North America. “The detailed Health Indices and Risk-Cost Matrices generated by this project will provide an excellent base on which the client can formulate prioritized maintenance programs and capital business plans for the strategic and cost-effective replacement, or repair of their assets,” said Steve Cress of Kinectrics, Project Manager and Technical Lead for the Exelon study. Kinectrics’ deliverables for the work include end-of-life analyses, and data organization for ongoing asset management.

“An experienced team of engineers and other technical specialists from Kinectrics will perform a comprehensive condition assessment for Exelon based on client data, interviews, and other related tasks”, said Cress. “Work on the project commenced on May 5th with an anticipated completion date of late 2007.
