Managing critical decisions in a volatile market

Electricity transmission and distribution (T&D) companies must make critical decisions in the face of tumultuous industry change. To achieve maximum long-term return on investment, asset management strategies must offer sufficient flexibility and responsiveness to deliver the best competitive advantage.

Kinectrics’ Asset Management Strategies define overall direction in steering the development of design and construction standards, equipment specifications, preventative maintenance practices and system operating procedures; and impact all critical performance parameters.

Achieving reliability benchmark goals

For T&D companies the greatest challenge centers on enhancing system reliability and performance while maximizing the value of fixed assets. Extremely short payback periods add to complicated investment decisions. To successfully defend rate order applications, T&D utilities need to demonstrate that reliability benchmarks are optimal and reflect the public interest. Meeting these demands effectively requires accurate, objective assessments and real comparisons with industry best practices.

Reliability-centered maintenance is the new industry standard

To achieve the highest level of system performance at the lowest cost an electric utility must adopt optimal maintenance practices. These maintenance strategies have evolved through three distinct stages: Time-based Maintenance (TBM), Condition-based Maintenance (CBM) and Reliability-centered Maintenance (RCM). Yielding maximum benefits, RCM represents the most advanced strategy with TBM and CBM as its subsets.

Effective application of RCM methodology requires an intimate knowledge of equipment design and manufacturing standards, various condition assessment parameters, maintenance functions and their impact on equipment performance.

Specialized expertise and experience

Kinectrics’ strength is the in-depth experience and specialized skills of our engineers and scientists. Kinectrics is uniquely qualified to provide unparalleled expertise for the development of asset management strategies for all major electric utility assets, including power transformers, reactors, capacitors, all types of circuit breakers, overhead line conductors, insulators, insulated transmission cables, transmission towers, and protection and control equipment.
