A reputable, experienced resource

Choosing a reputable, experienced supplier of safety-related testing services and equipment is important to ensure the safe and effective operation of a nuclear generating facility. Whether your requirement involves understanding why a component failed, dealing effectively with obsolescence issues, environmental or seismic qualification, or commercial grade dedication, you need a supplier who can deliver quality services.

Customer oriented service

Kinectrics knows the importance of plant uptime. Whether you need a component seismically tested immediately, or are planning a future plant upgrade, we can help you minimize outage time. Kinectrics’ extensive hands-on experience and complete in-house testing capabilities enable us to respond quickly and efficiently to meet your needs.

From discrete tests to complete EQ programs

Kinectrics complements your in-house capabilities. If you already have an engineering team dealing with equipment qualification, our services can bridge any gaps that may exist. Alternatively, we can handle projects from start to finish. Kinectrics services include:

  • Commercial grade item dedication services to EPRI 5652. We have complete in-house capabilities to verify and test almost any critical characteristic.
  • Seismic testing (earthquake) on Kinectrics’ tri-axial shaker tables. Shock/response spectrum analysis and sine sweep capabilities up to 4000 kg.
  • Steam accident (EQ) tests using steam chambers, up to 1 m diameter x 1.6 m, for LOCA/MSLB testing. Steam conditions up to 125 psig saturated steam and 500 ºF superheat.
  • Simulation of reactor thermal hydraulics, nuclear components testing and modeling, high temperature and high-pressure flow loops.
  • Engineering services for obsolete component identification, or equivalency evaluations.

Failure analysis and specialized testing

  • Mechanical aging and testing using static and dynamic equipment with spans up to 60’ and loading up to 1,200,000 lbf.
  • Failure analysisof materials in service through various characterization methods including mechanical/electrical testing, thermal analysis, spectroscopic analysis, chromatographic analysis, aging tests, microscopic analysis, etc. Additional facilities such as NAA, AA, XRD, XRF and fire testing are also available on site.
  • Near Infrared Spectroscopy  (NIR) technology for in-situ identification of polymer cable insulation and other polymer components which can also be applied to quality control in formulating polymer materials. Specialized in XLPE, EPR, Kapton, Peek, Tefzel, SBR, Butyl rubber, and Hypalon insulation materials.
  • Engineering expertise and testing for fiber composite materials including FRP, CFRP, fabric-reinforced elastomers, metal matrix composites.
  • Receipt and handling of components contaminated with radioactive material.

World leader in Equipment Qualification

Kinectrics offers over three decades of outstanding technical leadership in Equipment Qualification. Our in-depth testing and development experience includes:

  • Twenty-five years conducting seismic and EQ testing for Canadian and US Nuclear Utilities.
  • Qualification of components under high temperature and flow conditions, while simulating catastrophic failures.
  • Development of a nondestructive Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIR) technology for in-situ identification of polymer cable insulation and other polymer components.
  • Participant in round robin testing of various cable condition monitoring methods organized by IAEA on behalf of EPRI.
