E15: Thermal Hydraulics Testing

Thermal Hydraulics Testing provides experimental and analytical services in multi-phase flow and heat transfer. This includes design and fabrication of test facilities, testing, data analysis and model development.

The services focus on nuclear reactor safety and operation issues. In order to ensure the safe operation of nuclear power stations, station owners need to continuously improve their understanding of the thermal hydraulic behaviors of critical system components under all sorts of accident scenarios.

A recent Level Swell experiment produced detailed measurements on the rapid changes in water level, when a pressurized water column at elevated temperature was blown down from the top. The benchmark data is being used to validate a safety and licensing code used by a major utility.
