A manufacturer of drive shafts used in military vehicles approached Kinectrics to perform ultimate strength testing of its product. The ultimate strength of drive shafts was significantly increased while holding the physical dimensions of the shaft constant.

A Kinectrics test facility with a maximum capacity of 14200 Nm was used to load the shafts in torsion to failure. Kinectrics provided data to the manufacturer for the ultimate capacity and shaft deflection under load. This information was used to redesign the shaft.

Testing at Kinectrics allowed the drive shaft manufacturer to:

•	Verify that changes in the materials, components and manufacturing processes would meet the design requirements.
•	Demonstrate increased capacity to the vehicle manufacturer through independent testing at Kinectrics.
