Dresden, Germany – Kinectrics, through its Kinectrics GmbH division, recently completed commissioning testing for both on shore and off shore HV cables for the Dolwin3 project, which comprised 160 km of transmission cable in all.

A team of electrical engineers, led by Hassan Younes. BSEE, successfully tested all 150 kV interconnection cables within the Converter station under challenging conditions over a period of 4 days. The Kinectrics team performed comprehensive commissioning and Partial Diagnostic testing accompanied by low voltage measurements.

Kinectrics’ advanced expertise in HV cable commissioning supported progress on this major project, which will ultimately supply 1 million German households with clean energy.

Kinectrics is active in HV/EHV cable commissioning worldwide and currently operates several Resonant Test Systems in both Europe and North America. The Kinectrics GmbH division, based in Dresden, has performed high voltage commissioning testing for all major cable manufacturers and installation companies in Germany.

The Dolwin3 project managed by GE and transmission system operator TenneT establishes a 900 megawatt (MW) direct current (DC) grid connection for wind farms in the south-western part of the German North Sea. The connection is expected to be completed in 2018.
