Abstract

Arc Flash studies are important workplace safety measures, and are required by law and mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Association (OSHA) to meet various safety standards such as NFPA 70E, CSA Z462, amongst others. Failing to complete or update arc flash studies can be devastating, and may lead to a serious injury.

Kenneth Cheng

Service Line Lead of Distribution and Asset Management

Kenneth Cheng has over 16 years of experience in power system studies and is responsible for the arc flash projects completed at Kinectrics. He has strong knowledge in modeling power systems with power system tools, performing short circuit studies, protection coordination studies and arc flash calculations. Ken has also been involved in Distributed Generation, Power System Designing, and Maintenance Scheduling projects.

Ken received his BASc honors Electrical Engineering and M.Eng. in Power Systems from the University of Waterloo. He received his MBA from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 2013. Ken is a Professional Engineer of Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia. In addition, he is a voting member of the CSA Z462 Committee and sits on the IEEE 1584 Committee. Ken also authored a handful of technical arc hazard related papers published by IEEE, as well as other power magazines.
