General Accountabilities

  • Act as a senior project manager for Kinectrics dealing with standards, design, operation and maintenance of distribution facilities. Developing optimal distribution asset repair/replacement strategies supporting design, construction, condition assessment, loss studies and maintenance practices. Understand the options available to improvement network reliability and efficiency.
  • Act as technical advisor to the Department Manager and identify areas of opportunity to increase revenue and profit in the area of Distribution systems.
  • Plan and develop major business proposals for work in the area of distribution asset and condition management, including negotiation and administration of contracts, estimates of costs, scheduling, and resource management.  Responding to the requests of the Business Development Director on time, every-time.
  • Supervise staff who participate in complex multidisciplinary projects.
  • Consult with staff, in conjunction with the Department Manager/General Manager, the strategy or plan to respond to a customer’s complex problems.
  • Execution of work assignments including development of qualification specification and plan, test implementation, test and qualification reports.
  • Keep informed on the latest issues in the area of Distribution Engineering spanning both Canada and US operations. Participate in national and international bodies focused on technology, reliability, safety and standards.

Selection Criteria

Essential Competencies:

  • Initiative to propose and implement new business ideas in the area of transmission and distribution asset management
  • Ability to work in a team situation and mentor staff to develop their own level of expertise in this area.
  • Considerable knowledge and experience in project management acquired over the years in order to effectively and rapidly coordinate/mentor/supervise/lead other staff at Kinectrics and customer sites in order to integrate large multidisciplinary high profile/key projects/activities.
  • Must have up to date knowledge and experience in project management methodologies and tools.
  • Proven computer skills with a variety of software programs including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Essential Knowledge, Experience and Qualifications:

  • A four-year university education in electrical engineering. Post-graduate qualification seen as an advantage.
  • Extensive knowledge spanning Distribution Engineering in its broadest sense.
  • Practical knowledge/experience in Distribution standards, design, construction, equipment and maintenance practices.
  • Extensive knowledge of power equipment condition assessment methods including development of criteria for quantitative measurement of the health and condition of all transmission and distribution assets.
  • Recognized in industry as an expert in Distribution Engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in the role of “consultant engineer” with a demonstrated ability to secure work.
  • A period of up to 12 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
