New state-of-the-art Corrosion Testing and Assessment Facility

New Expanded Lab Facilities

Kinectrics has installed a new state-of-the-art Corrosion Assessment Laboratory for testing and assessment of environmentally-assisted degradation mechanisms in nuclear materials--including radioactive ex-service materials.

The new facility enables the detection and evaluation of conditions that facilitate initiation of Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) and measurement of crack growth rate with varying ECP, pH, loading and environmental conditions.

Constant K Test Systems

  • Three systems - 2 Secondary Side Crevice, 1 Primary Water
  • Three independently loaded and controlled sample per autoclave
  • Crack Growth Rate monitored by Direct Current Potential Drop
  • Electrochemical Potential measurement ready

Constant Extension Rate Tensile (CERT) Test

  • Four samples
  • Coupled loading, individual load cell
  • ACPD ready for crack detection
  • Secondary side crevice environment

Fatigue Crack Growth Rate Testing (FCG) Test

  • Two single sample test systems
  • Air environment, cryogenic to 595 deg. C
  • Plan for secondary side crevice environment
  • DCPD crack growth rate monitoring
