Cernavodă, Romania – Kinectrics was recently awarded a half million-dollar contract by S.N. Nuclearelectrica S.A. (SNN), owner/operator of Cernavodă NPP, for the provision of engineering services to prepare the Periodic Inspection Program Document (PIPD) for Cernavodă Units 1 and 2.

The scope involves preparing the PIPD for the Nuclear Pressure Components of Units 1 and 2 using the "multi-unit" concept in accordance with the requirements of the CSA N285.4 2009 edition, including the 2010 and 2011 updates, and elaboration of a gap analysis between 2009 with updates and 2014 edition of the standard.

This work will draw heavily on Kinectrics’ previous experience in completing similar tasks and will utilize a number of Kinectrics staff with extensive practical experience in preparing similar documents. Our proposed methodology follows the process that has been previously performed for other CANDU utilities in successfully updating their PIPDs for their reactor units - work which has included documenting and examining the gaps between the 2009 N285.4 standard, listed in the Reactor Operating License and the reference PIPD, and the 2014 CSA N285.4 standard. These updated PIPDs have been accepted by these utilities and the Canadian regulator, CNSC.

Engineering assistance and local logistics support for this project will be provided via staff at our Bucharest and Cernavodă offices.

David Harris, Kinectrics’ President and CEO, commented “Kinectrics is eager to grow our portfolio of projects with operators of the CANDU 6 reactors and SNN and we look forward to continuing to assist them as they move toward extending the life and refurbishing the reactors.”
