The COVID-19 pandemic has created an unprecedented surge in demand for personal protective equipment (PPE), with emphasis on surgical masks and N95 respirators. With nearly all supply chains for the production and testing of these critical supplies residing outside of Canada, there is a significant need for in-country sourcing. As the National Research Council, Health Canada, and other government agencies work to support industry in the production of material and masks, Kinectrics is adapting its leading test capabilities normally utilized for testing of HEPA filters and respiratory PPE for the nuclear industry towards medical needs. This “Made in Ontario” model will ensure a long-term stable supply of testing to the Province, and to the rest of Canada.
Kinectrics has initially focused on testing of materials with unknown origin or performance, to ensure that locally-produced or imported PPE will perform its critical function for our frontline workers.
Kinectrics has made a financial and business commitment to put into service the full suite of testing required for surgical masks in compliance with the ASTM F2100 standard, based out of our facilities in Toronto, Ontario. Kinectrics is available immediately to support organizations with testing needs, with some specific tests being commissioned rapidly over the coming days and weeks.
