Toronto, Canada – Kinectrics Inc. (Kinectrics) announced today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Prodigy Clean Energy Ltd. (Prodigy) and NuScale Power LLC (NuScale) to explore and develop an enabling licensing framework for the Prodigy Marine Power Station (MPS) that would integrate Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technologies, including up to 12 NuScale Power Modules™ (NPMs).

This agreement builds on a growing relationship between Kinectrics and Prodigy, and helps to advance NuScale’s commercialization efforts in Canada, the United States, and globally.

The highly compact Prodigy Marine Power Station (MPS) has the potential to greatly reduce capital costs of new nuclear builds, accelerates deployment, reduces environmental impact, and simplifies site preparation, as well as nuclear power plant end-of-life decommissioning. The MPS which integrates NuScale’s SMR would supply reliable electricity and heat. In addition, energy produced could also be used to generate valuable commodities, such as process steam, hydrogen, and ammonia, and to desalinate or treat water.

Kinectrics will provide licensing, engineering and other related services to this project, and support Prodigy in creating high-growth opportunities in the Canadian space for marine-deployed nuclear power, with worldwide export potential ensuing. Prodigy’s marine-based nuclear power plants could enable deployment of varying SMR types and sizes, offering a robust solution to help mitigate the effects of climate change and accommodate global energy demand.

“Achieving a clean energy future requires innovations to accelerate deployment of zero-carbon power sources. Prodigy's transportable and marine-based nuclear power plant systems could be a critical vehicle to deploy SMRs faster, more safely, and more economically, with minimized environmental impact. As a global leader in the energy services industry, specifically in nuclear licensing, Kinectrics is pleased to work with Prodigy and NuScale to help carve a path forward for modern deployment approaches for nuclear power.” said David Harris, President and CEO of Kinectrics.

About NuScale Power

NuScale Power has developed a new modular light water reactor nuclear power plant to supply energy for electrical generation, district heating, desalination, and other process heat applications. This ground-breaking small modular reactor (SMR) design features a fully factory-fabricated NuScale Power Module™ capable of generating 77 MW of electricity using a safer, smaller, and scalable version of pressurized water reactor technology. NuScale's scalable design—power plants that can house up to four, six, or 12 individual power modules—offers the benefits of carbon-free energy and reduces the financial commitments associated with gigawatt-sized nuclear facilities. The majority investor in NuScale is Fluor Corporation, a global engineering, procurement, and construction company with a 70-year history in commercial nuclear power.

NuScale is headquartered in Portland, Ore., and has offices in Corvallis, Ore.; Rockville, Md.; Charlotte, N.C.; Richland, Wash.; and London, UK. Follow us on Twitter: @NuScale_Power, Facebook: NuScale Power, LLC, LinkedIn: NuScale-Power, and Instagram: nuscale_power. Visit NuScale Power’s website.
